History gives us information about many such interesting aspects of human life.  History takes us on a journey through the past.  From one age to another and from one age to another, it gives information about the way of life of many ages - customs, beliefs, their food and dress.  It's as if we are wandering in a different world!  You may be wondering why we should study the human society of the past.  History is not only concerned with the affairs of the past, it is linked with the system of the present.  What were our ancestors like?  Where did he live  What did you eat  History informs us of the changes that have taken place in human life by giving information about many important things in his life.

Tools for Knowing History - Source Chintan read in the newspaper ‘4000 year old city found in Kutch, Gujarat.  He was surprised!  How do we know that this city is 4000 years old, who built it and how?  What food would the people there be eating!  What kind of clothes will he be wearing?  Activity • Find the river Narmada on a map of India.  Humans lived on the banks of the Narmada thousands of years ago.  How can we know history?  We have different tools to know the history.

 (I) Palm leaf and birch leaf: In ancient times man used palm leaf or birch leaf for writing, which we call manuscript.  Palm leaves are the manuscripts written on the leaves of the palm tree and Bhojpatra is the manuscripts written on the thin bark of the Bhurj trees in the Himalayas.  From their manuscripts on palm leaves and on the bark of birch trees, we learn about their language and way of life.  Many such manuscripts have been found.  From the manuscripts written on palm leaves and birch leaves, we get information about the ancient people of India.

Such manuscripts are preserved in temples and monasteries.  It contains texts in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Tamil.  Poems, plays, stories and epics have also been found on palm leaves and birch leaves.  It is also preserved in book form.  It contains a great deal of information about religious customs, social beliefs, the lifestyle of kings, science, education, medicine, and animals.

(Ii) Records: Articles carved or inscribed on rocks and stones are called records.  We can also learn history from the records.  It is also often found on metal.  The king carved his orders on the rocks and communicated with the people.

Many kings and queens of ancient India have inscribed their kingdoms, conquests, religions and cultures on such records.  Long lasting inscriptions on such inscriptions and inscriptions 1.2 Ashoka's inscription is Junagadh.  Ashoka's inscriptions are very well known.

III) Copperplate: Copperplate is a text engraved on a sheet of copper.  Many kings have also engraved information about their administration and donations on copperplates.  A large number of such copperplates have been found in Gujarat.  From which the name of the king, his religion, administration and details of charity are found.  Such copperplates are found in Patan Hemchandracharya Library (North Gujarat), Ahmedabad's L.D.  Institute of Indology, Navrangpura, Bho.  J.  Studies and research are preserved at Vidya Bhavana, Ahmedabad, Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra, Koba (Gandhinagar).  Coins: Coins are also an important tool for knowing history.  The name of the king, his religion, culture etc. and his time are found on the coin.  BC in India  5th century punchmark coins have been found which are the oldest coins.  Apart from this many gold-silver-copper coins of the Greek kings, the Mauryan period and the Gupta period, which - give the social, religious, economic and political information of the kingdom.

Punchmark coins: Coins made by forcing pieces of metal into a mold to make an impression are known as ‘punchmark coins’.

1.4 Punchmark Coin History Practitioners - Archaeologists, Historians and Tourists History gives us information about the past of human society through research by archaeologists called Archaeologist in English.  They go to ancient places and produce and find houses, coins, bricks, stones, tools, food samples, human and animal bones etc. and study it to acquaint us with the human culture of that time.  Humans have been traveling from one place to another since ancient times.  Many tourists also traveled to other countries to record life there.  From the travelogues of such tourists we get information about the history and culture of the country.  These include passengers such as Megasthenes, Pliny, Fahian, Yuan Kwang.

The research of archaeologists and historians gives us a glimpse of the great civilization scattered along the banks of the Indus in north-west India.  Many cities existed in India 4500 years ago.  In the same way, it is known that many cities developed in the areas around the Ganges 2500 years ago.

All these tools provide information on the customs, food, clothing, technology and culture of the human society of that time.  Finding many cities and villages in India, he has given us information about the animals of that time besides cotton, barley, wheat.  Historians are important scholars who have studied the past.  They classify the tools found, do research, collect information from manuscripts - documents - archives and then plot it properly.  Archaeologists and historians bring the past to life.  Land Name: We know our country by two names.  India and India.  The word India is derived from Indus.  Which is called Indus in Sanskrit.  The people of ancient Iran and Greece were familiar with the Indus River.  They came in contact with that region 2500 years ago today.  The Iranians called the Indus River Hindos and the Greeks called it Indus.  They identified the east bank of this river as India.

India is like that We know the name from Rigvad.  A group of people named Bharat came and settled in North-West India.  |  Our country is known by his name as 'Bharat'.  This group is also mentioned in the early Sanskrit work Tved.

Salwari: Time is very important in history.  Events can only be written with time and place.  We understand time by associating it with date, month and year.  Such as Friday, July 20, 2018.  Thus the arrangement of time is associated with the birth of Jesus Christ.  The birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, has been linked to the chronology of the world.

We call it ‘AD’ (A.D. Anna Domini in English) means the years after the birth of Jesus Christ.  E.g.  Is.  2000 is 2000 years after the birth of Jesus Christ.  In the same way, before the birth of Jesus Christ, B. C. - Before Christ.  Q.  2000 BC is 2000 years before the birth of Jesus Christ.  BC  (AD) 5th 4th 3rd 2nd 1st 0 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Century Century Century Century Century Century Century Century The birth of Jesus Christ dates back to BC.  And the timeline explaining AD is often written as CB instead of AD and BCE instead of BC.  CE stands for Common Era while BCE stands for Before Common Era. Christianity is associated with most of the nations of the world, so like many other nations, we use the same salwar in India.  The term BP is also often used.  'Know this - BC - Before Christ AD - Anno Domini - Eno and Domini are two original Greek words meaning' In the Year of God '.  E.g.  : AD 2018 Inscription: An inscription carved on a stone Bhojpatra: A thin bark of a tree called Bhurj, on which texts were written in ancient times.  Ask your teacher for more information on other sources of history, such as records, historians, travelers.
